Andamooka opal - 18,31ct
Size approx.34x16x4mm. Andamooka opal with sparkling blue, green, yellow, purple and red areas.
The Andamooka opal has been "carbonized" by me. A process in which the rough stone is placed in a glucose solution and then this glucose is carbonized in a heating process. This gives the stone a dark base to show off the opal inclusions. The rough stone is light gray to white and therefore the opal layers are barely visible without treatment.
The carbonization is permanent. Due to the porous surface of the stone, these types of opals are very difficult to polish and therefore the stone has been polished several times with a natural wax on the front side.
The pendant was PHOTOGRAPHED AND FILMED IN DRY CONDITION.
