Andamooka rough opal, carbonized - 6,28ct
Size approx. 23x14x2,5mm
The Andamooka Matrix roughopal was "carbonized" by me. A process where the rough stone is placed in a glucose solution and then this glucose is carbonized in a heating process. This gives the stone a dark base to show off the opal inclusions. The rough stone is light gray to white and therefore the opal layers are barely visible without treatment.
The carbonization is permanent. Due to the porous surface of the stone, these types of opals are difficult to polish. The stone was taken in WET condition!
