Andamooka rough opal slice - 3,79ct
Size ca.32x20x1,3mm. Incredibly colorful Andamooka raw opal with sparkling blue, green, yellow, purple and red areas.
The Andamooka rough opal has been "carbonized" by me. A process in which the rough stone is soaked in a glucose solution and this glucose is then carbonized in a heating process. This gives the stone a dark base to show off the opal inclusions. The rough stone is light gray to white and therefore the opal layers are barely visible without treatment.
The carbonization is permanent. Due to the porous surface of the stone, these types of opals are difficult to polish!
